In nature everything is connected.

Between plants, fungi, and animals, communication flows in a thousand different ways. Flashes of light, scents and sounds. Dances, words and songs. A book about the intelligence that surrounds us.

Plantas que Hablan, dog body language spread, illustrated by Asia Orlando for Editorial Flamboyant.
Illustration of bees with honeycomb background and pink dashed flight paths. Open book with colorful illustrations of jungle animals and plants, including a jaguar and a monkey.

To create the illustrations for this book I relied on the author's text, which was the starting point for my artwork. Since the book is packed with information, my goal was to present it in a way that is simple, fun, and accessible to the younger audience. I wanted the book's pages to overflow with color and vitality, highlighting the diversity of nature, to transform the reader's experience into one of discovery and wonder, showcasing flora and fauna in all its glory.

Illustration of a jungle scene with various animals and plants: a monkey on a branch, a snake, a toucan, a woodpecker, a small brown animal near a hole in a tree, a jaguar walking on the ground, colorful fungi, large leaves, rocks, and tall trees.

Fungi that transfer nutrients to plants through their roots, bees that trace an invisible map, trees that emit a scent to attract predators, and many more are mentioned in this fascinating book.

Illustration of a kudu antelope reaching up to a tree to eat acacia leaves, with other acacia trees and a grassy landscape in the background. The scene is set during sunrise or sunset with a colorful sky.

I have always wanted to depict animals just as I see them, with their own expressive character and unique personality. Animals are what I love most in the world; they are truly incredible. And in this book, I wanted to give them the tribute they deserve.

Book cover titled 'Plantas que hablan, animales que cantan' featuring colorful illustrations of jungle animals including a jaguar, frog, snake, and lemur surrounded by lush green foliage.
Illustration of Campbell's monkeys in the jungle, showing various behaviors and interactions among them, including communication sounds like 'crack' and 'bum-bum,' with lush tropical plants and animals like leopards, an eagle, and a monkey.
An illustrated scene of a jungle at dusk featuring bats, monkeys, a grasshopper, and trees with purple and blue leaves. Bats are depicted flying and hanging from branches, while monkeys are sitting on a branch, one with a surprised expression. The scene has a purple and pink background with some stars visible.
An illustration of a girl standing in a room with a dog seated on a rug, pointing at her. The room has teal patterned wallpaper, a dark green dresser, a potted plant, and picture frames. The girl has dark hair with red hair clips, and the dog is white with black spots and a yellow collar.
Colorful illustrated pages of a children's book featuring rainforest animals such as jaguars, monkeys, toucans, frogs, and a purple cat amid lush green foliage and flowers.

Every day, in every corner of the natural world, thousands of small communicative miracles take place through codes we do not even perceive: fungi transferring nutrients to plants through their roots, bees dancing as they trace an invisible map toward the flowers richest in pollen, trees releasing scents to attract chickadees, predators of the caterpillar infestations that threaten them...
